Introduction: A Bronze level move for Waltz.

Leaders and Followers: Leaders and Followers move differently.

Instructions (Leader Perspective)
As the name implies, you're going to be executing a lock while going backwards. Let us assume you're facing diagonal center against line of dance. Let's start with your feet together.
1: Left foot drives backward. When doing so, your upper body does contra-body motion (CBM), twisting to the right. Reason being is that your partner is on your right, and if you aren't considerate enough and instead stay with your body facing left, your partner will be very uncomfortable having her entire body pulled off balance.
2: Right foot steps backward, landing and staying on toes. Maintain CBM.
And: Left leg goes backwards. Lock your left knee in front of your right. Left foot lands and stays on toes. In this position, both feet are on toes.
3: Right foot steps back, landing with toes but then rolling into heel.
And: Left foot comes back and closes with the right foot, in preparation for the next move.

Instructions (Follower Perspective)
While the leader may be doing a back lock, you'll be doing a forward lock. Which, by the time you're dancing Bronze Waltz, you've probably done at least once or twice. Start with feet together.
1: Right foot drives forward. At this point, just like the leader, you need to execute contra-body motion (CBM). Rather than having your upper body face left, it needs to twist to the right to face your partner. When doing this move, the upper bodies of you and your partner need to be facing each other. Note that the amount of CBM you do is based on how much your partner does. If your partner isn't doing enough CBM, you tell him that he's not doing enough.
2: Left foot steps forward, landing and staying on toes. Maintain CBM. Difficult in heels, but do your best.
And: Right leg goes forward. Lock your right knee behind your left knee. Both feet should now be on toes, matching your partner.
3: Left foot steps forward, toe-heel.
And: Right foot comes forward and closes with left foot.

Tips and Tricks
  • Don't Fall Backwards (or Forward): When executing counts 2, And, it's very easy since both feet are on toes to lose your balance. If you fall, you drag your partner with you in part because you're in CBM. So, move in sync, stay in CBM so you don't drag each other off balance, and you'll be fine.
  • CBM: While both leader and follower are doing CBM, the amount of CBM done is determined by the leader, not the follower. So leaders, make sure to check with your partner that the amount of CBM done is comfortable for her because if it's not, you need to do more. And followers, let the leader know if he's not doing enough. Don't twist and force more CBM because that's going to feel very uncomfortable for the leader.

Advanced Concepts
  • Similar to Hesitation Change, the closing of the foot is very important as it allows you to prep for the next move by winding up like a coil in the upper body.
